Foreign Operations, Export Financing and Related Programs for Fiscal Year 2007 Bill highlights.
Abstract
Chairman Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) marked up his version of the House Foreign Ops Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2007. Most noteably, the bill does not fully fund the Millenium Challenge account at the President's request. The 1890s joined the President in requesting full funding for the Millenium Challenge account which is used to offset global hunger and extreme poverty. Much of this funding is necessary to address loss of life around the world from hunger and extreme poverty conditions that cause much malnutrition and disease. The bill underfunds the mIllenium account by $1 billion dollars below the President's FY07 request. Additionally, overall, this draft comes in $2.338 billion below the Administration request.
